The computer used to work! Now it doesn't! I have tried reinstalling windows after reinstalling windows!! It gets to the splash screen and locks or indefinetely stays there with the little bar moving.

I reinstall the computer about once every 3 months or so. Which is probably too often but...anyway. I tried my friends copy of win2k on it. It didn;t work right so i killed win2k and reinstalled win98. Thats when the problems started popping up. I have tried scandisk for bad blocks...none. i just dont get it. I can usually fix my computer problems but this is just too much!

specs:
Computer City Brand
Intel SE440BX Mobo *
PII 400 mhz *
96 mb PC100 ram (64*,32 configuration)
ATI Rage Fury (Rage 128) 32mb SDR AGP
Onbord Crystal PnP sound *
Intel TurboEthernet 100+ PCI NIC card
Creative 2x DVD ROM *
* Original parts

It just seems like after installing win2k i had problems...could having reformatted in NTFS caused it to mess up? I reformatted back to fat32.

For now i am just running linux because it actually runs on the computer...but windows wont....help!!! ;[

Troubleshooting Windows Start Up Problems (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q188/8/67.asp) might help, it has a lot of good info on start up problems.

Sounds to me like it's stopping on something in autoexec.bat or config.sys, so you might try the boot menu option for Step by Step Confirmation, and check the above article for things to enable or disable.

Go through the entire article, and check out everything, and the best bet may be the link to the troubleshooting wizard.
