Would appreciate your help,

System AMD K2/400
64mb RAM
Win 95

Receiving an error for a conflict in i/o 2f8 when the computer is booted, it will run in safe mode but not normal it powers down. I had a Hp 8200i burner and purchased a tdk 12x and the problem occured after tryin to install the tdk. Device manager shows no conflicts in the devices. i cannot manage to remove the hardware profiles for the CDROMS as the computer shows that i have the hp writer and the tdk plus the original cdrom that i had before i got the burners. Also it shows that both the a and the c drives are operating in dos compatibility mode. Do i have to do a reinstall or can i save the aps? appreciate the help. I have be reading some information on the error and it believes to be a conflict in the com2 port but i have no clue on to fix the problem.

Go into your BIOS and you should be able to change the I/O settings for COM2 from there.

Troubleshooting MS DOS Compatibility Mode (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q130/1/79.asp) might also help.

Note: The performance tab ALWAYS shows MS DOS Compatibility Mode when you're running in Safe Mode, so if that's when you saw that notice, disregard it. It is only a problem when it shows up in normal operating mode.

To remove the devices, boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager, and click the + beside CD ROM, highlight the drive you want to remove and click the Remove button below. You can't remove the hardware profile itself, just the device. Try removing the old CD ROM first, see if that solves the problem, if not, then remove them all in Safe Mode and reinstall them.

In normal operating mode, you can highlight Computer in Device Manager, and click Properties and you will see a list of IRQ's in use. The other buttons at top will give you listings of DMA, I/O etc. Check them, any conflicts should be shown. If so, double click the ! or red X and it should bring up the troubleshooter to help you fix it.

scada might be right about the BIOS option, I'm not sure about that one, so I'll leave it alone...try removing the devices in Safe Mode first, see how it goes.

Yeah i changed the settings of the com2 port in the bios and the conflict diappeared but now when i boot the computer up after the Windoz screen the computer powers down. I can get it to boot up in safe mode but i cannot remove the properties for the CDROM. I'd do a reinstall but i want to save the data on the disk. No conflicts are showing in the device manager, which is confusing me but understandable considering safe mode options. Thanks for the help on this matter and further thoughts or comments are appreciated. The DOS information was helpful and i'm checking it out.
