This is a weird one. I recently signed up with @Home and installed an ethernet card to my cable modem for my desktop. So far so good. I have a laptop with a USB port that I thought I'd use when I wasn't using the desktop. I'm not using them simultaneously, I unplug the ethernet connection on the desktop.

The problem is that I cannot get the drivers that came with the self-install kit to load. Windows 98se sees the cable modem as soon as I plug in the USB so I don't think it's hardware related. What's strange is when I look for the drivers on the CD they appear, but they won't load. I even downloaded the drivers from Toshiba's website thinking the CD may have been corrupted but the same results happen.

It's not a huge problem for my desktop to be the only one I can use but it's a 120 processor and I'd like to see how much of a difference I'd notice with my laptop which is a 550. Anybody have any suggestions?

Toshiba (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/pd/pd_ac_detail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1358815596.10074 99988@@@@&BV_EngineID=hadccjddgmgibfekcghcfmfdglk.0&comm=HO&plin=Accessories&aoid= 117237&poid=187814) says you can use the ethernet and USB connections at the same time.

What does the "Network adapters" part of Device Manager look like?

Edit: long links don't work, I went to toshiba.com's online store.
