I need help with installation of a 56K modem. I've built 2 pc's and the hardest part of doing that has been getting the modem to work on both. I have a cable modem that I use regularly. I just want the 56k modem to work in case of emergency. Windows 98se doesn't recognize it. It's not on the list of drivers in Windows data base - it's made by AOpen and has voice/fax. I have a yellow ? in device manager beside pci device but I don't know if it's this equipment. I assume it is because everything else works. Driver disk only contains readme files and no actual drivers to install. How do I get Windows to recognize and install this modem? Thanks for your help.

I would suggest starting at the Aopen site.
http://www.aopen.com/products/modem/default.htm

Find your model and click on the details for that item
On the lest side of the screen you should see “Driver Download”
Add the correct drivers and reboot.

It should find it the modem.
IF it doesn’t then go to control panel and double click the modem icon and let windows search for it.

If you still can’t find it that way you may need to force windows to build a new driver data base.
By deleting the old.
