Hi all

Well Im using a poor mans network hub... a twisted pair cable since I have only 2 computers getting together. I have a older abit (dad01)board 450 mhz celron system with smc network card, and a newer soyo 1.3ghz(MOM01) amd system with onboard network card. On dad01 I can see all of the shared componets componets of mom01 but cant see any of dad01 on mom01 computer... understand I can see you but you cant see me... please help.

Oh something Ive also noticed.. on my game dune 2000 I use to have an option for playing multiplayer games over lan and now that option is not availiable. I still have serial and modem options but no LAN button...

What type of operating systems are installed?
Also check these threads, it may give you some ideas.

Again what operating system do you use? Is IPX/SPX installed? (check your network properties)

Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

win 98 both machines and as for network properties....on the mom01 machine I have client for MS networks... Dialup adapter for isp and via pci ethernet adapter... TCP/IP dial up adapter for dialup for isp... TCP/IP for ethernet adapter and also file and printer sharing for ms networks.. thats al for network componets on mom01 computer... on dad01 I have...client for ms network... micorsoft family loging... 3com ethernlink pci card.... dial up adapter... 3com TCAATDI diagnostic TDI ( not sure what this is for but has the icon like the TCP/IP adapter does) also have a TCP/IP for 3com etherlink pci card... and a tcp/ip dialup adapter...file and printer sharing for ms network.. and a personal webserver for Front page...

Do I need IPX/SPX installed... what is that for???

Hi Jim,
Ghost_Hacker is our pre-dominate network specialist, so I would follow his advice to a T.
I am curious about the need for IPX/SPX though. It is for Novell systems.
You might try installing NetBEUI protocal. It is MS specific and allows very easy transfer of info on an MS network.
Also try this, On Mom01, dbl click network icon, click on Search button, type "Dad01" in the "Computer name" box and hit search. Does it come up with anything?

thank you all... I did install the ipx/spx protocall and all things work better.. both computers see each other as well as the Dune game I play works well on both computers and can play against each other. Just in time for all the family at christmas. The wife was so happy ( yea right) that I got the to computers hooked together. Now I can sit even longer on the computer playing ( and I quote her) "That stupid game" with somebody else...

thx
