I have went through 3 CD-Rom drives due to me putting in a CD and the drive goes into a fast spin and wpies out. This happened in a two month period. I have it as a slave to my ATA100 harddrive as a slave because I have a CD-R drive. What is happening? How can I stop it the first 2 drives were 48X the 3rd a 52X

I had that problem but sorted it by using NeroDrivespeed which slows down fast CD drives, you can read about it here: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=nerodrivespeed.html

Never heard of that one. But I would put the cdr drive on another ide port and set it up as master, instead of putting it up as slave on the same channel as the harddrive. Also can you try a different power connector to put in the back of your cdrom drive. Might have a bad power wire instead of a bad cdrom drive.

Yeah I have a creative 48X mine starts to spin and spin and spin until
it takes off scraping the underside of the disc, making the disc's unreadable sometimes. it only does this now and then, though I was told the creative's do this when I took it back it was replaced and it was alright for a year then it started again.
