View Full Version : Epson printer faulty

I have an Epsonstylus color640 which today stopped working.
At switch on it did its usual pre-tests, but then stopped with the carrier half way along. The paper light was flashing and the two ink lights stayed ON, I cannot clear this situation. Is this likely to be an electronic fault or a mechanical (including ink feed) type fault. I hope I can repair it myself if any of you has an idea where I should look.
Thanks

Hello Ray,
You might pull those cartrages out and see if there is any ink left. Most of the Epsons I have seen do not even allow access to the cartrages if they have enough ink, but automaticly set the carrage to an accessable position when they are low.
Post back and let us know

Hi ray, this sounds like the eeprom in the printer has got confused
normally this would be a engineers job, I had a 500 that did the
same I was able to get hold of a manual with engineers reset instructions
try this turn off the printer disconnect from computer press the on button whilst switching on at the mains then quickly press form feed once then again after 1 sec then switch printer off for 5 mins then try again good luck.

Thank YOU.
Am I glad I didn't have to advise someone else to do this, they would never have believed me. IT WORKS.
I did exactly as you advised and eureka; after settling down the black ink out light stayed on. I replaced the cartridge and I printed out your instructions. I promise to quote You when the same happens to any colleagues.
Thanks again.

Sorry,
I told the Eprom to behave by:
Turn off printer > disconnect from computer > press the On button whilst switching on the mains > then quickly press paper-feed once > then again after 1sec.. Switch off printer for 5mins, then try again.
Light told me that the black cartridge needed replacement_____DONE

I think my printer needs a clean inside. There is ink scattered all over, and it is getting intermittent again. Any further advise please. Can I clean it without harming the works? Sorry to bother again.

I had troubles with a canon printer. Ink was everywhere , i took out the tray , where the ink is a clean them under water. I think if a part can come out it would be ok to clean it with water. But i wouldnt put the whole printer under water. That would be bad, but im sure you know that. See ya
