View Full Version : Monitor Question

I have been using a Compaq MV900 monitor for about a month now. I haven't had any problems with it until today. Now, when my computer is idle for a few minutes, it goes black. I have checked all the power settings and they are set for it to never go off. It will not come back on unless I unplug it from my computer for a few minutes and shut the computer down. When I restart, it comes back on and works again. This monitor was used when I got it and I have been leaving it on all the time. Is it time for me to get another one already? Thanks!

Hi Brina
Does the monitor come on again if you just turn-off/unplug its own power supply for the same few minutes (ie let it "cool down") without actually turning off the computer at all?
Also if you disconnect the cable to the pc and turn on just the monitor do you get a normal (usually 3-coloured) test screen. If so leave this on for a decent period and see if it goes blank (i.e. all on its own accord without any pc interaction).
It goes without saying that you have of course checked all connections and cables.
Finally; I presume that the monitor's LCD doesnt change when the screen goes blank.

Just wondering whether you have a chipset fan on your Video Card? Do you have a Probe utility where you can monitor the fan speeds along with MB and CPU temps?
Have you checked "under the hood" for dust accumulations on the fan blades and MB?
Do you have access to another computer where you can try the Monitor?
