Hi All,
Why does my nifty new XP machine (that does everything else right) dial my ISP when I am not using it?
I hear it dialing from the next room and I have no windows open or programs running on the task bar.

That's proably the "automatic updates" service. To disable it open Control panel and select "administrative tools" then "services". Double click "automatic updates" and select "stop" and "disabled" from the drop down menu. Click "OK" to save the changes.

Once this is done you'll have to update your system the old fashion way.
