View Full Version : Unable to load printer drivers in ME

I have an 8mo old Gateway Athlon w/ME. Recently tried to use my old HP Inkjet 560c printer with it (parallel connection chained through a scanner). Loaded the old driver from the original floppy, printer works with everything but MSWord, so I assumed the old driver was not compatible with this version of WORD. So I went to settings/printers/add printer & attempted to add what I assumed would be ME compatible drivers. The printer appears in the list of available drivers, but when I try & load it, none of the files exist on the HDD (looks in C:/windows/INF). So I went to restore, inserted the appropriate cd, and attempted to load all the printer drivers. It very quickly acts as though the drivers are loading from the cd (says it will take 9 minutes, but is done in less than 1) after which I get the same exact result when going to "add printer" as I had before (select HP 560c from the list of drivers, yet none of the driver files are available on the hdd). Went to HP site looking for an WORD/ME compatible driver, they say to use restore (as I attempted to do). Also, when I go into restore after running it initially, next to "printers" it does not say "loaded", as it should after loading them. The hang-up seems to be getting ALL the drivers to transfer from the cd to the hdd, so I can select my printer & load its driver. Any ideas? I'm stumped. Have always thought this ME idea of having every possible peripheral driver on the HDD in case it is needed was a stupid waste of space. Since HP does not have an ME/Word compatible 560c driver available to download, is there anywhere else I can get it? Again, the printer works fine with other programs, just not Word (typical ;-(

Thanks,

Dan
