View Full Version : Printer and Scanner - ARE NOT RECOGNIZED
Here is my problem. My scanner and printer both use usb cables. I had to reinstall these due to getting a new tower. Now, i used the software that i used the first time around to install each, for some reason my pc won't recognize these items. i have checked and rechecked everything. i even uninstalled them twice just in case. each time nothing. i ran a system diagnostic test...zip..nothing. i don't know what to do. i know both items work fine and the cables are fine also....anyone with any ideas? please help if you can. i am so frustrated.
thanks,

When you replaced the tower.
Did you also replace the power supply?
Also the mother board?
In some cases it works best to disconnect a usb device.
Then install the drivers .
At some point during the install it should ask you to plug them in.
I can’t say why it works better But I have also found it better to unplug the Usb at the device not at the system plug.

hey rick, thanks for replying...yes i have tried that...and once it prompted me to plug in the usb cable and click ok, well i did, and hit ok, but it didn't move. i kept getting the stupid noise your pc makes when it won't let you do what its asking. so yes....but when prompted and hit ok, it wasn't ok. Have you enabled the usb ports in the BIOS.
Hit del on startup and look for a usb controller options. My be in intergrated peripheals.

thank you 2 for the advice. the newest info i have....is this...it is like the computer doesn't know i have the cable plugged in. it says plug it in and hit ok....so i do it but it doesn't let me out...so like i said, its like the computer doesn't realize they are plugged in...
After you plug the cable in does it list unknown device in the USB area under device manager?
If Not you may have a defective cable.
Or you may want to use a self powered Hub connected to the 1st usb port .
