I am having a problem with a HP all in one Office Jet 701. I have Win98SE loaded and the Office Manager software works fine, it will scan copy etc. If I boot into Win2K I cna print form Word or another appllication but when I start up the office manager software i get a massage "cannot communicate with device". Now something is wrond, if the dam thing will rpint why wont it allow me to use the functions. All the drivers are the latest HP OS specific driver. HP have come back to me with a pathetic " It wont work" and say that it can only go on one os!!! Is this try and why??? Help me before I go mad!!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

SB,
How about a little reverse "psychology?" It sounds from their logic that the initial configuration...must be Win98 then, supersedes Win2K's. What you might want to consider is checking to see if the Win2K drivers can operate all functions on their own.
Remove the device from Win98 and install using only Win2K and see if the reverse proves true.
I empathize with you trying to get answers to questions such as these. From my experience, HP techs just use a database with "pat" answers. Unless you happen to hit upon an individual tech who has experienced and resolved a similar situation on their own...well, you know! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
You might try HP's Forum if you don't get your answers here. If you're lucky you could get a Forum Tech to respond...although, I found they are just working from the same database as their Tech-support.

It could be there's some sort of onboard FlashRam involved in the initial configuration that then excludes dual driver input? Otherwise, how would it know who's had is on the controls!

May all your dealings in life be win/win!

Whyzman, thanks for the answer, I will try the reverse psychology and let you know what happens. As for HP, its great when they send you and email and say respond to this by using this link and all that happens is it comes right back!!!
