I have two maj. problems. on boot, i get floppy drive failure (40) floppy dr. has been moved to another mach. and works in it. second prob is real myst. On startup, it keeps finding new devices. the device is always related to the inst. of creative modem blaster (di5660/5665) It has been installed & uninstalled several times with the same result. During inst. it tells me that the drivers on the cd arn't the correct ones for device. got on net and downld. supposed latest drv. still same problem. however modem works ok but wave form device doesn't. wave device is device that win 98 keeps finding. in hdw profiles sys. says its ok. media player says it doesn't have device. when installing according to instructions it keeps trying to install twice. About the sys. FIC 503+1.1a motherbd, set to run at 100Mhz, AMD K-6 266Mhz, Multi3.0 so its actually slightly over clocked. Ram 96m pny 100mhz. cd-rom sumatra 240, 3 1/2 floppy which hasn't worked prior to modem and monitor change. I'm KINDA NEW TO THIS THE LAST MACHINE I HAD TO FOOL WITH WAS AN OLD 286. HELLLLLLLLP SOMEONE PULEAZZZZZZZ!!!!!! I'M ABOUT TO PULL SOME HAIR OUT!

Do you run an antivirus? Have you run a scan Yes there are quit a few that effect Bios, boot records mostly hardware related. And they can turn your PC into a Nice Paper weight.I would suggest you try and run a scan.

yes. norton antivirus. shows completly clean. We've even changed hard dr. and upgraded to win 98. problem common to old drive, and win95. only time no problem was when we put everthing in older bd. but it would only support 66mhz A166mhz cpu.

the support site states:
Check under Device Manager to check for a Standard Modem, PCI Serial Controller, or a PCI Communications Device. If these listings exist, highlight and remove them and reboot the system. Upon reboot, the modem should be detected and ask for the drivers which are located on the CD.

Firstly yes, viruses can affect the bios, you should check your AV scanner and make sure that it is set to scan ALL files.
Secondly, change your FDD controller cable!

found some interesting info on the creative lab site today re: the modem. they state that modem can't be installed properly from the add hardware icon in control panel. must do it by letting win wizard find it and install from there. WHY WON'T THESE DINGBATS TELL YOU THIS IN THE LIT. IN THE FREAKING BOX. also said must remove all remnints of modem. drs etc. gave detailed inst how to. will give it a try tomorrow. BY THE WAY THAT ISN'T HOW THEY STATE HOW TO INSTALL IN THEIR LIT IN BOX.
