How can this happen? We have Win98SE, Intel wireless USB network(HomeRF),we have been having problems, pc's unstable, The website was called "Kerndirect" a website my husband has been to before, but how did it get into the network neighborhood? Also, with the network we have, whenever I turn my computer in the morning, it shows me connecting to the other computers (we have 4 altogether)even if the other computers aren't turned on, I can go into them and look at the files on their "C" drive with the computers off. Didn't know that was possible!

Hi Navalee and Welcome. KD are a marketing firm. Why don't you just ask them?

As for seeing the other pc's drives. Either they are "asleep" but can be "woken" - even with no monitor being displayed (are they "turned off" AND the mains supply disconnected) or else your pc has just remembered their contents from when it was last connected.
What happens if you try to copy a file from one of the networked ones (and with its mains supply disconnected) to your pc? Happy hunting! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
P.S. In what way is your system unstable and are you looking for help regarding this?

Thanks Paul, I'll call them tomorrow. My computers are unstable because of how I can't even open files that are in my computer without it hanging for almost a minute sometimes. They're not keeping time, especially mine(server), on one of the computers (client) you can't just click on OE and recieve mail without it timing out and getting cut off from the ISP,but if IE is opened first you can, also in OE you can't always access the deleted folder without it really hanging up (which forces you to CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the task) which brings me to another item, the CTRL+ALT+DEL has been changed (somehow) to ALT+CTRL+DEL,(I put another keyboard on that comp. and the CTRL+ALT+DEL worked fine. Uhmmmm, lets see , last Sat. this same computer went down, bluescreen, when he hit any key, the computer went off completely and he tried three times to turn it back on but it wouldn't, I go over there an hour or so later and tried it and it came on in safe mode, and while it was in safe mode I looked at some of the settings and seen devices listed under System Properties/Device Manager that aren't there in regular mode ( I posted a question about that here on the networking forum today too ) Sorry didn't mean to go on and on. I appreciate your asking and willing to help. I want to get my machines better secure and set up right. Can I ask one more thing, I have my computer phone line hooked up to a fax machine which is the one actually plugged into the phone jack, is that O.K. to get my internet access like that thru the fax? THanks again, Kim
Sheesh navalee...........
Looks like you have much more going on there than a network problem.
Check (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q271510) this MSKB link out for your problem with OE. For the general slowness. malaise of the other machins, clearing out temp files, the internet cache, cookoies, history, etc and agood run with defrag and scandisk can help speed things back up, also diaabling uneeded netorking protoclols can help a little too.
