Hello everyone,

Someone told me I might get some help here with my problems and this is my first visit.

I have an older PC and a used scanner that were working prior to having a CD burner installed. What I have is an A-Open mother with a 150 meghz Pent processor and the scanner is HP Scanjet 5p. The power light is on for the scanner and the cable is connected. The board that tha cable connects to is firmly in the sockets.

Is there another cable needed inside that connects to one of the three jacks on the secondary board?

When I try to do a scan, I get a screen that there's no ability to communicate with the scanner. At present I'm stumped. Any attempts at help are appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Fruss Tray Ted,

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Perhaps a couple of options to pursue. How about we try SAFE MODE first and see what happens. Boot into SAFE MODE and right click MY COMPUTER>PROPERTIES>DEVICE MANAGER. Click the + alongside all instances you happen to find of the SCANNER and then REMOVE. Reboot and let windows find and reinstall the drivers...or, you could select to browse and locate the drivers supplied with the scanner.

Let us know what happens?

I am assuming that the scanner is using a SCSI interface?

What type is th CD-R, IDE or SCSI?

Hey guys,
Thanks for the trying to help, but I found my problem. I could find all the installs in programs so I assumed everything was all set but when I checked cotrol panel this morning, there was nothing there in scanners and cameras. So I re-installed my program disc and all's well on the home front.

I'm glad it didn't work for a while though as I wouldn't have found this place and wouldn't have learned anything either. I found enough dust under my main chip's fan to overheat it at anytime. Luckily caught that one. I cruised around some of the other sections here and I'll Be Bach for sure.

Oh, it has a 51 pin cable that is and a small 8 pin that isn't being used. BTW I'm A negative blood type. That A is for anal. LOL
