HP Vectra XA\166, Product 03994N ABA
Computer crashed. Reloaded Windows 98 (factory installed according to Microsoft HP is not helpful either) Anyway, part of Windows 98 did not reinstall apparently as Office 97 is screwed up. MS Word won't open anything either Drive C or floppy. CD ROM is now missing as is CD Burner (Nero) which I had installed right after I got it for Christmas. All of this was working until AOL crashed everything.
How do I get Windows registry back and how do I reinstall CD ROM so I can reinstall Windows 98? I am ignorant. I need step-by-step instructions and I know nothing about DOS. Thanks a million.

----------Been working on this daily for weeks, will it ever self-xdestruct? HAHAHAHA!

Hello GWWrangler12853,

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Did HP provide you with a RESTORE disk? Or, Do you have a BOOT DISK provided with the system?

If you ran the full restore then you have to reinstall everything you added, if you used the partial restore then that is likely the source of your problems....and you may need to do the full restore after all, but you should still be able to search the existing files and make any backups before you do the full restore.
