I tried to hookup an old HP Deskjet 500C & when I got to the print test page section the two dialogue boxes came up:

1)The file HPCOLOR.DLL was not found.

2)The following error occured: 'The file was not found [error#2]
Setup could not finish opening a file on the source disk.
Source file: C:\WINDOWS\INF\HPCOLOR.DLL
Destination file: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\HPCOLOR.DLL=DRIVER.CAB

I did try to download drivers off HPs site but they said Win ME would take care of it (obvious paraphrase). The other problem here is I don't have the OS ME setup disk nor a rescue disk. ???

Hi
Go: ControlPanel<>Printers<>Add Printer<>LocalPrinter<>Manufacturers etc and just see if it is listed there (it is on my edition of ME). It it is just install it and remove the old one.

Looks like HP does not have a Win 98 or ME driver for this printer. You may have luck with the Win 95 driver at this URL.

If that doesn't work, try driverguide.com

A quick check there found a driver installer called dj125en.exe which according to the people who used it will work with win98 if you select portable during the install...

Worth a shot if nothing else works, good luck
