OK here goes, I have recently got a cd writer and installed it. Since that time there was a problem getting any of my music files ie: Real jukebox, napster, real audio to play any music. So I deleted the one that popped up when I went to my computer because I thought it was monopolizing the sounds. In doing this (stupidly deleting it completely) am getting a Start up error that a required dll file was not found. Is there anything I can do to get this file back???

Does it say which dll is missing?

If it does then you can search for it either in the Win installation disk or you can reinstall the program you uninstalled.

Also you can search it at:DllArchive (http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/).

Ok, I got rid of the dll problem by reinstalling Real Player but now when I open real juke box and try to play a song it tells me "cannot open audio device another application may be using it." How can I determine which program is using the audio? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks mjc! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

You may have one of your audio programs running in the bacground. Realplayer usually has some kind of background stuff running. You can check this by ctrl-alt-del and looking at the list it brings up and see which audio programs have something running in the background. You can disable RealPlayer Start Center by going to the View ->preferences tab in RealPlayer and then StartCenter->settings and unchecking enable start center. Try the same for each of the other audio programs listed because I think RealJukebox does it also, don't know about Napster. With the background starters disabled it will be a little longer to open the music file.

Also you didn't say if the cd-writer you installed is a secondary drive or if it replaces the original.

Can you play songs off of a CD?

Also check under device manager to see if there are any device conflicts (yellow exclimation points or red "x"s) Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager.

I had sound and I've again lost sound. I can play cd's. The cd writer is connected to the same power, audio and IDE connector that the original cd rom was connnected to(it is now "just there"). I installed the master/slave configurer to the csel for my computer to select, and it did. I have removed all audio, video devices and the restarted the computer and it reinstalled the proper components (through the device manager). I've also reinstalled windows multimedia through Windows setup on the control pannel. I am not sure what all the components under details are for and if I really need them. They are: Audio compression, cd player, macromedia shockwave, media player, microsoft netshow player 2.0, multimedia sounds, sample sounds, sound recorder, video compression, and volume control. I know I can do without the cd player because the first time I was able to get sound was when I disabled everything exept media player and volume control. Now I can't seem to get that back. It keeps giving me errors saying that the audio device can't open, it may be already used. I did a ctrl, alt, del. and if any audios were found, their tasks were ended! I am about ready to shoot this damn thing. I don't ever remember being so frustrated in my life. Any suggestions are sooooooo much appreciated!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well about the only thing else I can think of is to try here:
