View Full Version : No PT message at startup, system info. in message

System info...win98, Abit VA-6 mainboard, 233 mhz pentium II, 32mb ram, quantum bigfoot 2gig HD...Message after memory check and drive info. says No PT, insert disk and press any key....then I wait a minute and hit a key and windows will continue to load but its very slow and all this takes a while....I am not sure what PT means, does anybody know what could be wrong? thanks

Ahah! I found out what no PT is...........PT stands for partition table, I have no partition table and can fix it with fdisk ! But I dont know if I will lose all data on the disk. Just thought I would post this to possibly help anyone else wondering the same thing

I don't have experience with the problem, but try Open Directory (http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Shareware/Windows_95_98/Utilities/Anti-Virus/) and search for partition table.
It came back with three repair programs that might help.

I finally figured out what PT was...

fdisk_/mbr using a space in place of the underscore ( _ ) used here, should rewrite the master boot record, and that should fix the partition table, without affecting any data. If not, you'll have to repartition the drive.

I gotta start getting some sleep...
