When I try to boot up, I get a message on the monitor, in a large red box, "PLEASE CHECK YOUR SIGNAL CABLE". At this point nothing works, keyboard, power switch. In order to turn the machine off I have to unplug it.

Check the monitor cable to be sure it's plugged in well, check the monitor on another computer, and if you still get no results pull the video card and reseat it or try another video card.

I plugged the monitor into another machine and it is working just fine. The video card is a voodoo III about 6 months old. I will try to check it out. Thanks
