I have recently replaced my Pentium 166mhz processor with a 200mhz Processor but on startup a 166Mhz processor is detected when a 200Mhz is installed. I would apreciate any assistance.

When you put in your new processor what other changes did you make? Did you change the bus, multiplier, voltage. Download Sandra (free download from Hotfiles) http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=000EX9&b=pccomp What does Sandra say your CPU speed is. Need more information.

I have not changed anything else while installing the 200Mhz processor, I simply removed the 166Mhz processor and replaced it with the 200Mhz, and in the start up it says 166Mhz. I have also downloaded and ran SiSoft Sandra and it also says that my processor is 166Mhz. I hope I have given you enough information.

Read the motherboard manual. There are jumpers that need to be changed to set the speed to 200 instead of 166. There may also be jumpers to change the voltage. It will be explained in the manual. If you don't have the manual go to the website for the motherboard manufacturer and search in the support section.

Some computers use the BIOS to detect and configure the CPU rather than using jumpers. You may have to enter the BIOS setup to detect the new CPU if you have that type of system.
