Is there a difference in the procedure of formatting a Laptop hard drive compared to a desktop harddrive?

RudedogTo be number "1" is not the matter of life or death..it is more important than that

Not that I know of, a hard drive is a hard drive...

I would deal with a laptop the same way as a standard PC, make sure you have the appropriate boot/start up disk, back up data you need to keep, and have the restore disk on hand if the computer uses one.

Probably the main consideration will be CD ROM access, since a lot of laptops will have an external CD ROM instead of an internal one, so a trip to the manufacturer's website to check for a FAQ or other tech support might be a good idea.

One good idea migth be to try booting with the restore disk before formatting, or try a win98SE or later CD, which should be bootable. Being a tech I'm sure you know how to check BIOS to be sure the CD ROM is in the boot sequence...If it will boot to a CD ROM you should be in good shape...

Can't think of anything else...

EDIT: Did think of something else...this one is being moved to the Notebook forum, where it will probably be more appropriate.

I appreciate the advice Mr. Pete..I figured it was no different. I have all the components necessary...but I was just wondering....
