View Full Version : Backup confusion!

In my W2K system I have a standard floppy as well as an LS120 "super floppy". Whenever I attempt to backup to the LS120 from Quickbooks 2001, the program tells me that [B] which is the LS120 is an invalid drive and at the same time the floppy is initialized (it's light goes on), when I click on the OK button in the error box, it then initiates the backup and allows me to begin the backup to the LS120. Why the confusion? Does Windows 2000 pro have a problem with LS120 drives? Do you think I need to eliminate the standard floopy and just run with the LS120? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the LS-120 plugs into the floppy cable, it is designed to take the place of the original floppy. The computer will see it as either a 3 1/2" (Bootable) floppy drive, or a 120MB high capacity removable drive, depending on how you access it.

I've used the LS-120 before, liked it pretty well. It replaces and works exactly the same as a standard 3 1/2" - 1.44MB floppy, BIOS sees it as a standard floppy for boot purposes, while Windows applications can use it as either type. It will boot to a DOS or Windows bootable floppy, while handling files up to 120MB by backup programs or other applications.

If it were me, I would either set it up as the only floppy drive, or if I wanted two I would swap their positions on the ribbon cable, making the LS-120 drive A and the standard floppy drive B. Then you still have the standard floppy for emergencies, you just have to swap it to the end of the cable if you need it to boot with. Or set the "Swap Floppy Drive" option in BIOS.

the floopy and the LS120 are not connected via the same cable. The floppy has it's own 20pin and the LS120 is installed as a slave on the same cable as the CDRW. Any other thoughts? Thanks for the reply

a direct swop should still be in order.
or put the LS 120 as master on floppy drive cable and original floppy as slave.
