When I turned my computer on Monday I got the following error"
Award Bootblock BIOS v1.0
BIOS Rom checksum error
Detecting floppy drive A media
Insert system disk and press enter

when I did insert a system disk and entered I got the following
"Automatic load AWDFLASH.exe
error-AWDFLASH.exe not found"
Replace the disk and press enter"

I guess the bottom line is I need to flash by BIOS but I have never done it before. Can someone please give me some steps as to how to do it properly.
My questions are: 1- Do the flash utility and the bios upgrade need to be on the startup disk or on a separate disk. 2- Can I use a WIndows 98 startup disk. As always I thank anyone who can assist me at this time. I know that everyone leads busy lives. If you are like me though, your whole life in on your harddrive!!!!!!

That's one I haven't seen before...

Usually a checksum error means the CMOS info has been lost, and you'll need to replace the battery and reset BIOS information. try that first, and see if it works. If not, a BIOS flash may be necessary. Check All BIOS World (http://www.abios.com/index.html) for BIOS flash instructions.

If you have to update the BIOS, be VERY sure you have the correct update for your BIOS, and also be sure you understand the instructions completely. Most sites that have BIOS update downloads also have instructions posted.

BEFORE you flash the bios....as Pete said.......try pushing the DELETE key at start-up......then if you are able to go into the BIOS.....set everything at the DEFAULT settings and exit saving changes.....then the computer should start and it's time to go get a new cmos battery asap http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif..if you CANT get into bios.....post back with what happens.
