I just searched the forum but cannot find the answer I need. Just networked the ten or so computers in the office peer to peer. Main computer is used by the PR department with a lot of photo scanning being done into Paperport, Corel etc. After working awhile the operator is getting an error about not enough system memory. Computer is running Win98se, 98MB Ram, and a + 12gig harddrive. I suspect that I need to increase the ram. Any ideas?
Thanks
When they scan in a photo do they then close that file before scanning in another?
Also how many programs are running in the background?

I don't think they are closing any before more are scanned. Probably a number of programs are running in the background.... plus webshots.
Yeah, each one left open, the webshots all eat up space, and if the hard drive is getting full then there is less room for the swapfile. So maybe a regular schedule of cleaning out the junk on the hard drive, getting them to close down the programs/files when done with them, cutting the number of programs that run in the background and upping to about 128MB will smooth things out a little. Do the easy ones first, clean (get rid of the junk (disk cleanup wizard is good for that) & defrag) and limit the number of programs in the background (especially those in the startup group--probably use MS Office or something similar so you can't disable some of the things we usually tell people to disble (related to Office), but diasble anything you don't really need).
