after a while on my system, my mouse seems to drag or jerk and does not respond in a sharp manner as in the beginning of the session, if i restart the computer, all is well, 2nd time it happened since yesterday. thanks in advance bill:confused:
Did you install any new software or hardware immediately prior to the problem occurring?

i just noticed that it will happen if there's no activity for about 5 mins, then after 5 min it will be jerky and hard to maneuver, and have to re-start windows. thanks again bill:confused:
What are your power management settings on Windows...is the screensaver disabled?

thanks m.j.c., load power profile is disabled on msconfig / start ups,
also no screen saver (none) one thing i notice thats stange though, is if i click on the 3 finger salute ctrl/alt/delete. and while looking at whats running, the mouse is perfect, when i click out of ctrl/ alt /delete, the mouse goes back to acting up.. strange re- starting is the only answer, also went into device manager / mouse/ driver, to see if i have to update my driver, it says my driver has no updates and suggests i keep what i have thanks for your assist

Did you try shutting down all programs, except Explorer and Systray, with Ctrl-Alt-Del?

no i did'nt do that, but if im just looking at that ctrl/alt/delete,
the mouse responds well, but when i check out of that site and go back to the desk top, it goes unstable again, im lost with this, i know it's really not a big deal, but i really don't want to keep re-starting after 3 minutes of idleness just to get my mouse to respond normally
thanks for your assist bill:confused:

You said you downloaded the Intel Accelerator..did you install that then those problems begin? ..if so you have to point to that. I installed that once on a Gateway and noticed it was lagging to..not the problems you have, but it did seem to be slower more so than faster. Its something thats running in the background because im thinking when you hit the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys its puts apps running in like a suspended state and thats why what ever is lagging the system is "on hold" then resumes once you close that out.

thanks randy, good point, yes the problem, or problems, began after downloading the i.a.a. maybe thats the culprit, also noticed since the downloading of i.a.a, although not related to my current problem, but i now notice that when i do a n.a.virus scan i have to disable system restore because it hangs on that part of the scan, i contacted norton a.v. and they said that that's normal in some instances, but why NOW i ask?, after 14 months and 30 scans at least, why now do i have to disable system restore? and if i do get rid of i.a.a., what repercussions can i expect from removing that? thanks again
holding on:confused: bill:(

Hum...others here have mentioned that Windows Me restore isnt the best..if you have a Gateway and combine that with the Goback software (if you have goback?) id say when you made those system changes with that download its probably those running in the background writting to the disc. Ive found that by clearing the history on the Goback helps somewhat..but you may want to hold out and see if you can uninstall the Intel Accelerator and if so it would be listed in the add/remove programs in the Control Panel. Then do a reboot and see if helps. Then close all running apps in the taskbar and do a defrag and error check with scandisk.

good, thanks will do, also would you know if the (manually restore the windows 98 / me/ registry tool (q 221512)
is part of system restore?, this registry recovering
tool saved me, when i had to go back a day after deleting some shell extensions in reg cleaner, i want to disable system restore because
the day i needed to go back using system restore, i couldn't get to access it (system restore) because of my registry mess, and the registry restore tool saved my butt.i had to use my boot disk.
but i don't want to disable system re-store if it's associated with the registry recovering tool. thanks for your assist.

I think the registry repair/restore toll you refer to is called scanreg. I Don't think it has anything to do with the ME system restore program. It's a separate appplication included originally with win98, then was continued with ME.
To use it you need to boot to a command prompt, C:\>, and type scanreg_/switch with a space in place of the underscore ( _ ) used here.
Switches:
/restore - does exactly that, restores the registry from a previously made backup. By default scanreg keeps 5 backups. I usually edit scanreg.ini and make it 10.
/fix - again, does exactly that...fixes the registry.
/backup - Makes a current copy of the registry.
/opt - optimises and compresses the registry. This is an undocumented switch.
More on scanreg (http://www.computerhope.com/scanregh.htm)

okay seems my unstable mouse is back,
checked out intels application accelerator, checked out programs in ctrl/alt/delete and ended task one by one, no screen saver, load power profile disabled on start up, also mouse driver update shows no update but other drivers available to download?
checked out the mouse it self with another same mouse same thing happening with both mice. most recent things iv'e done
downloaded adobe reader, downloaded windows update: (root certificate update),also intels application accelerator which checked out o.k thats it.
also to refresh:.... when after a few minutes of inactivity on the p.c.the system mouse is jerky, unstable, and lagging, if i click on the ctrl/ alt/delete just to check whats running the mouse is fine, when i click out of that window the mouse returns to being unstable again and a windows RE-START is the only cure to return to a stable mouse.
would unpluging then replugging the mouse help? or putting the system on stand by mode when i leave it for 5 minutes? i'm at a loss. is there anything i can key board press short of re-starting to bring back the mouse when it goes into that unstable state. thanks much bill.
