Hello All!

I use a standard parallel port for my printing and scanning needs, but it has recently come to my attention that if i somehow invert my SPP into a EPP (enhanced parallel port) or a ECP (enhanced capabilities port), then i will greatly increase my scanning time. I mean scanning takes forwever, everybit helps, right?

I have been to the increasing your system performace of the site, but it didnt seem to help. There is just information about what each type of port is, not how to invert one into the other..

thanks for any help you might offer me friends!

Hello JeymisBond,

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

Have you had a look in your BIOS to see whether it supports enabling the different Parallel Port functions?

Hello Jeymis.
The type of parallel port is usually setup in the BIOS, depending on the chipset/motherboard capabilities. Go into the BIOS setup at boot, and the port can be reset. where this option is depends on the bios type - Award/AMI etc.

If changing the mode will improve scanning times etc is uncertain, but it may well be worth trying, after all, it can be reset if it doesn't work.

JeymisBond,

Can you try your monitor on another computer? Also, with your HDD removed you should still get your POST screen data with just the video card and monitor attached.

So, if the monitor checks out, your vid card would be a potential suspect.
