Hi there! need help with my DVD in my sys. My sys specs:win98me, PIII-933, soyo mobo, 256RAM- assembled with my friend's help. DVD orginaly from my other computer- e-machine, doesn't have drivers cd. I can hear sound but no display. The software I installed was windvd ver-3.0. What do I have to do for display. To make things worse, why I am getting this msn internet keep poping up on the screen even though I never clicked on it?

abraham,
On which IDE and in what position (Master/Slave) did you connect the DVD? Did you jumper the DVD accordingly?
I would go into DEVICE MANAGER and check for any (!) or (?), and let us know.
Did you find, or download the drivers for the DVD...wasn't quite sure from your post.

It might be an IRQ conflict. I recently tried to install a DVD-ROM and it was conflicting with my add-on videocard.
Hope this helps a little.

Windoz will furnish drivers from it's database
for the DVD-ROM. However, Windoz must recognize
that the device is present.
You state that you can hear sound but no display.
So that tells us it is operating when a CD is installed.
You are using win98me for an operating system? I
take this to be a typo and should read win98se.
Did the Hard Drive come out of your e-machine also?
And if so did you do a fresh install of Windoz after
assembly of what you have now? Strange things can happen
if not.
MSN is evidently trying to get you to download a newer
version of messenger, etc. Possibly has some connection
with downloading Windvd 3.0?
What do you have for a Video Card? If you check the read
me files on the different PC games you will find a list of
the Video Cards that are not compatable for that particular
game.

In response to whyzman: DVD is on a separate cable from HD. From Device Manager/system/sound,video and games controller these are the two items with (!) marks: (!)c-media PCI audio legacy device and (!)game port joystick. I just took the dvd from emachine only and no drivers as there was no cd with drivers available when we bought this emachine. So I borrowed windvd ver 3.0 cd from my friend and installed.
Responding to ranchdog: os is win 98ME. I took only dvd from emachine and replaced with cd-rom in that computer. On this custom made, every thing is new. video card is diamond make. About this MSN keep poping up, you think there is a possiblity/link with windvd 3.0? What causes that? Do you think I should uninstall windvd and see what happens???

RD is correct regarding Windows having the drivers for the DVD in it's database.
What do you have the DVD jumpered for on the Secondary IDE? If it is the only device it should be terminated (placed on the end connector of the IDE) and the jumpers should be set to Master.
The (!) in Device Manager are a concern. I would boot into SAFEMODE and highlight these devices and click on REMOVE. Reboot and let Windows find. You may need to supply Sound Card drivers at that point. You might just let Windows see if it has a compatible driver in it's database. If not, you'll need to get a current driver.
You would also want to check the DVD documentation and see if it needs to have DMA enabled. If you would let us know it if supports DMA then someone can direct you to get it enabled if it is not currently.
