I recently installed IE 6. Somehow it got set so it wouldn't use windows media for playback and as the radio i listen to only sends in WM compatible format, i tried to uninstall it and go back to the older version of explorer. Now my whole com[uter is screwed up. Symptoms: My active desktop won't function. It stays in recovery mode and the restore button doesn't work. Internet explorer comes up and works except that hyperlinks are nonfunctioning. My email(outlook express) comes with all the subject bodies blank with the messages as attachments, in non HTML format. Netscape seems to work ok exceot that I have no functioning media players with either browser. When I try to use hyperlinks with IE I get a message saying Explorer has causedan MSHTDMLL error.
Does anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks

If you have Win98 SE......you might try a Registry Restore to a copy which was good before the install of IE 6.......At a MS DOS prompt - type scanreg_/restore(BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT READ LAST SENTENCE HERE) .......the underscore is a space. Other than that.......whew...you might have a LOT of unwinding to do through the registry, win.ini and System.ini or go to Windows Download site.....Hopefully someone else here has a FIX they know of.

only difference I would say is to BOOT to COMMAND PROMPT ONLY, and then type scanreg /restore

and set to a working registry BEFORE you installed this "upgrade"...

My question is WHY did you "upgrade" to this 6.x IE ??

Many people are learning the folly of going out and getting the "newset/latest- upgrades"........ and they don't have any of the bugs worked out of them yet.. it is MUCH safer with ALL M$ products to WAIT at LEAST a YEAR.. before actually installing.. so the "test phase" is over.. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

*&*-and I'm still using IE 5.01 and it is FINE.. no problems anywhere, anytime..

I have ver. 5.5 (with the Service pack ) and it works very well; however, I also have Netscape 6.0 (which I dont like too much) and remarkably havent had any problems with it....AND it is actually faster in the PC Guide than IE 5.5....dont know why???
