View Full Version : My DVD-ROm/CD-ROm only reads DVDs and no CDs

I have Me installed and wen i open "My computer" it only gives me a CD icon (not DVD icon) well thats not the real problem, the problem is that wen i try to run a CD it doenst work but wen i Run a DVD works fine! its strange but true! and wen i open the the device manager(hardware) my DVD name and drives are there and is says that its working fine!!

Can someone help me!!!!

My Toshiba doesn't show up as a DVD either, only as CD-ROM. I suspect that the BIOS of most machines either doesn't differentiate between the two, or that the firmware isn't "spelling it out,", or the BIOS doesn't really care! :rolleyes:

However, that your DVD is not reading CDs that's another issue. Are these Pre-recorded CDs or "home burned" CD's.

Also, what make and model?

The DVD is a Compaq DNR 8080B and it fails to ready ANY Cd recorded Original or Burned Cds even in DOS mode with a Boot Disket it only reads DVDs
