Is it possible using AT commands or init settings to make my modem disconnect when it sees an incoming call? I don't get many phone calls, but spend a lot of time on the internet, and would like my modem to disconnect when someone is calling me so I can take all incoming calls. I have a PCI 56k V.90 modem.

for windows 98 click start button / settings / control panel / modems
highlight your modem in the menu
select properties / connection / advanced
enter the command in the extra setting feild

note*
be careful of what you add, it can help and it can hurt performance

hope this helps

Thanks brian,

there is nothing in the box at the moment, do any extra settings get added to modem log.txt ? if so that file could be backed up before any changes made.

I also spend a lot of time on the net & would like to have calls over-ride connection, also I would like to check settings to see if I can improve my connection.

I am very interested in trying to set this up with a Conexant SoftK
Data Fax PCI Modem. Is it possible with this modem????

Where could I find the settings I need???

Any help or suggestions would be appreciatted.

I wasn't aware of a string that could do this - so if someone discovers it please publish it here.

Remember that call waiting should be enabled so that the incoming beep can be detected. THIS (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/modem/wait.htm) is the information from The PC Guide.

Modems with the newer V.92 protocols can sometimes achieve this even when the ISP has not upgraded to V.92 (though not with all of the options/benefits). I have tried this, with varying success, on a WinModem that came installed on a PC and am waiting to try it out on a hardware one, once I decide which one to go for.

For those of you who have the Conexant Soft 56K HSP modems, you can try the new .v92 drivers

You can get the generic drivers from Conexant here (http://www.conexant.com/customer/md_driverassistance.html)

Or try a set from here (http://www.com1-support.com/uk/download/index.html) . Scroll to the PCI Card HSFi V.92, and don't forget to grab the NetWaiting utility if your ISP is .v92 ready (I am not having much luck with NetWaiting, but the v92 drivers are working great;))

For the Conexant with the v92 drivers, v92 need not be enabled to be able to disconnect on call waiting. Just add +PCW=1 to the extr settings box. (Actually for any v92 modem)

HAMR 5600 v90 voice modem.

1: can the 'extra settings' be just deleted, after experimentation.?

2: what to back up (just in case)?

3: if/when it works, how are you alerted that it's an incoming call and not just a 'usual' dissconnect?

If you do have updated v92 drivers for your software modem then there will be a MOH (modem on hold) application for it. Without that then it is just a disconnect.

what to back up?

Your current driver set....

can you just delete the extra settings?

Yes.

How about this Radio Shavck has a splitter that allows you to recieve a phone call while online, then you have so many minutes to decide whether to stay online or not. They are not very expensive 29.95 or less I think. I am considering on my self.
