Hi PC guru,

I was wondering if you guys knew of a way to copy all the content of my hard drive to a USB Storage device (Maxtor USB 40 GB HD).

Any ideas?

Sylvie

You should have software for your USB Storage device.
Otherwise Windows won't see it without the drivers.

Once the drivers are installed and the USB Storage device is plugged in (and the device turned on if needed), it will add another drive letter in Explorer.

From there, it is just another hard drive attached to your computer.
At least that is how it works in my system. :)

Yep, basically after the drivers (needed for 9x but not 2k or XP) it is just drag and drop.

I was wondering if there is away to completely copy my current hard drive to my USB storage. Right now it won't allow me to do it. Can I somehow do it at the command prompt (msdos)? I want to be able to copy all my program files so I can reformat my C: and do a fresh install.

If you have more helpfull hints please let me know.

cheers :)
Sylvie

Best way would be XXCopy (http://www.xxcopy.com/).

Make sure that you have read and understand Cloning the Win9x system disk using XXCopy (http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy10.htm) before proceeding.

I have cloned one hard drive to another and it worked wonderfully. :)

Hello Sylvie

If I remember aright Microsoft's own backup program which is included in Windows and can be found in

"Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools"

will do a backup of the whole C: drive to a [huge single] file on a hard-drive.

I hope my recollection is correct.
