I replaced the HDD in my old 486DX whenever i booted the sys back up right after the memory count(which is right) sys just reboots over and over I can get the keyboard error that should allow access to setup but sys just continues to reboot and count memory.I moved the mem sticks around but same thing.

Thanks

Are you sure you got the ribbon connected correctly? Pin one (the red side of the ribbon) must be connected to Pin 1 on the MB, AND on the HD. Other than that, maybe you bumped something loose in the system - like ram, cpu, a card, or connector?

Good luck,
Don

You might also try removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes. If your battery is soldered in, there may be a jumper setting setting on the mobo marked "Clear CMOS" or something similar. Usually you move the jumper there, power on for a minute, power down, move the jumper back to its original "Run" position, and power up again. Sometimes this will automatically take you to the BIOS setup, and sometimes you still have to use the keystroke(s) to get there. You may need to manually enter the required info about the new drive, so I'd have that handy.

Glad to help. It's always a good idea to have your BIOS settings written down in case you need to clear them. It's so seldom you have to enter BIOS setup that it's easy to forget. Now I know I've got mine around here somewhere.... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
