I moved my computer last night and went to plug it in when it made a hissing sound and became silent. I was not trying to boot up---just plug it in. I went to boot it and nothing. Smelled like an electrical burn. So, I assumed it was the power supply and replaced it. Still nothing. Could it have fried my motherboard? Any ideas what the problem is?

well, there's no telling the extent of the damage, really. you certainly could have fried your motherboard, and everthing else in your computer. you might be best of at this point taking it to a shop and having them diagnose it for you.

If you had ANY PCI or ISA devices which were not firmly seated in their sockets on the motherboard.......then you got a SHORT....many times the short ONLY affects the card which was not seated correctly; however, it sometimes takes the mobo with it.
If you notice one of the cards (like video, sound card or modem) not fully seated....just pull it out(other than video, which would HAVE to be replaced to test) and try again and post to us the results. If the new Power Supply will not come on after taking out all cards which were not seated (if there are any) then you did probably cook the motherboard.

I'm putting a new Fat32 partition in my Head Drive...hope it speeds me up.......
