I upgraded a Micron 266mghz Pent II to Win 98se. Now the boot time is like 5 minutes. Everything seems to run fine, but the boot time is soo slow. I have a 300 mghz AMD that boots in 1/10 the time. Any ideas?

I remember a post here or in another pc forum that helped me recover about 2 full minutes of boot time. I had built a 1.0 GHz Athalon on an ASUS A7V133 with Win 98 SE...anyways, I had put in a NIC for future cable service, but was not currently using it...I disabled it in the Device Manager and vvrrrroooomm...so to speak. If this is no help...check for loose peripherals and other components like RAM modules. My other pc was hesitating on boot-up due to a loose ps/2 connection. Other options...how much stuff you got running at start up? Knock some of that off. There are several sites that will give you all kinds of advice about config.sys and the other files in the msconfig utility (Start/Run/msconfig) you can go that route if you're still not happy...use caution though http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Use www.google.com (http://www.google.com) with search phrase "speed up boot time". Let us know how things go.
