Hope this is the correct forum. External Modem is a peripheral.

When my Hard drive gave up the ghost (8 days ago) I lost some of the drivers (and a lot of files) for Xp. (Yes I had backed them up, with ghost, But cannot now get image files to re-install on new drive as is is a different size) One of the drivers lost was the generic modem drivers. It is an external 56k Data/Fax/Voice modem, I think either a Connextant or a Diamond. XP will not install modem with Win 98 Drivers. Anyone know where I will re-get a generic modem driver?

Ernie,

Why not make a partition on the new drive the same size as the imaged drive?

Also in XP there should be a generic driver that should work for most all external modems...probably wouldn't give you the voice functions, but it should allow to connect.

mjc,
I hang my head in shame, I did not keep a copy of how my previous drive was split. (much to my sorrow - have rectified it with this one though as I have used PM to print out partition sizes)
As for the modem. XP does not even see it, though it is working OK here in 98

yoda,
thanks for the link, i am going there now.

yoda I just went to thee link you posted and recieved the message that I do not have permission to access it. :(

Whats the file extension of the image files?..ive never used Ghost ..maybe you can use Winimage or WinISO to extract the image files to data and get the files back somehow?

Ernie-
Getting back to the driver issue for a moment- I clicked on YODAS link and got the "Do not have permission" thing too.
But, if you just click around a little-(On modem support/ XP driver info etc)... you're in!
Ran across a bunch of stuff- Maybe you can find something there!
Good luck :)
Try THIS LINK (http://www.conexant.com/customer/md_winxpinfo.html) (which I got to from YODAS link).

Thanks Jabar
It has just dawned on me (who's slow?) XP cannot even see the modem when I try to install ANY drivers for it, and yet device manager shows it sitting there under "Other devices" but not working.

I am using the modem at the moment in my dual boot OS of 98/XP. Tried the link form Yoda but when I run the find modem file it cannot see the modem, So I take that this means it is not a Connextant.

Have done a FCC search and sent of mail to the makers so hopefully they will be responsible enough to answer
