While I was playing a game, baldur's gate, my computer froze and I restarted it with ctrl+alt+del. While it was loading I decided to change the cd I had been using, I figured what the heck it doesn't ever load from the CD. After the word compaq disappeared it said "Non-system boot disk or disk error replace and strike any key". There wasn't a disk in it. I reboot it, but it always askes for a disk. How do I get it to boot from C again.

It also mentioned something about disk 3 before it started acting weird. I'm not sure if that relates to the game or not. I haven't had CD 3 in all day and the cd's are labeled like "bg disk 3". Just some more information to try and help.

try this first: when booting immediately PRESS REPEATEDLY F8, this will give you Windows start up options. Choose "Safe Mode" if it will boot to safe, then RUN SCAN DISK.

if that doesn't work then try the following.............

when you first see the red Compaq insignia you will ((briefly)) see a 'cursor' blinking at the TOP RIGHT of your screen, PRESS F10 and HOLD it until you get to BIOS set up. There make sure it is set to default, (on a compaq that usually is set to check A drive 1st, then CD, then boot from C Drive.

All of this is assuming- that you had already just "strike any key" and it didn't do anything.

Also use [F8] or hold down [Ctrl] to get to the boot menu, choose Command Prompt Only and at the C:\> prompt type:
scanreg_/restore using a space in place of the underscore ( _ ) used here. Choose a registry backup made before this happened. Run scandisk, from the command prompt,
scandisk_c:_/autofix_/nosummary_/surface
will run an unattended scandisk and run a surface scan.

If that's a DOS based game I'd bet scanreg will do the trick.
