Ok, I don't know very much about computers, so I will need all of your help. Here's how it goes...When I hit the power button on my computer, i can hear the computer loading, but the monitor does not turn on...After a minute of loading, the computer will just shut off, completely. I have tried another monitor on my computer, so I know that it is not the monitor. Could it be the monitor card??? Some other info: It has done this before, but usually, if I try to restart it a couple of times it will work...Also, there is a red light on, on the front of my computer. I am a college student and my computer is very important, any help would be greatly appreciated

Has this system ever booted all the way and run well, or is this a new problem that just recently started? Have you had the computer on or even just had it plugged in during a bad electrical storm? If there is a 115/230-volt switch on the back of your power supply, is it set correctly? When you first push the power button, look at the back of the power supply to see if the fan is rotating. Do other people have access to your system to play tricks on you?

If you're comfortable with opening the case, you could reseat the memory modules and add-on cards, check the power and data cable connections, and make sure the CPU cooling fan is working. If not, it's time to befriend a "geek" or take it to a shop.

Okay Dudes! I figured it out. I swapped my friends video card with mine and viola, it worked! So, now I must get a new video card. Thanks for your input though. It did help me troubleshoot my computer. Mil Gracias.
