I have a yamaha CDRW drive which is about 2 years old, suddenly it is not burning CDR's exept with direct CD

is it possible that the (CD drive) memory has gone bad ?

amd duron 750: 192 mb ram

no other progs running. burning at 6x (which I used to use with no probs.)

no conflicts,& I have tried turning off auto insert notification & turning on DMA. but to no avail. (DM refers to it as 'standard CD rom' don't know whether this wa so before or not!)

BTW: after a burn has failed it still reads the disc as 'blank recordable CD' goes through the process of writing all tracks, finally giving message "CD created successfully" but the CD fails to work and locks up the pc for some time.

CDRW's 'packet writing' through direct CD is fine.

Hi Vic, I don't have a definite answer but I would go the software route first, if you haven't already done so, try uninstalling and re-installing the writing software.

sorry so long coming back, but I thought that I had solved the prob.

I have un-installed (creator 4) several times, also upgraded to creator 5. no difference.

found some stray folders (from 4) in another partition (from a previous install/un-install) which I have now got rid of.

I think the CD's are faulty, and have now done some copying on a different brand, but it's still not completely 'all well' as it reports errors (though the Cd's turn out ok.) sometimes the CD's are not recognised until I re-boot, and other 'little' things.

I now have creator 4 running from w98se & creator 5 running from w2000
