When I run the dvd in the dvd drive it plays the production movie at the very start of the film but after that nothing just a black screen and if there are symbols to click on for different parts of the film they show up in broken white lines, no picture but the sound runs fine. Ive tryed changing the width of the window to wide screen and back and some other things but nothing seems to work. A while ago I think I tryed to play a clip of a cd game and after that it never worked the same. I heard somwhere that if u do this it damages the player or somthing is this the problem??

there may be a util out there somewhere that you can download to check the read heads of that rom, you put in a cd, that sort of thing. i think Nortons Utils had something along those lines.
is other software read by the drive ok?
try cleaning the rom with a cd lens cleaner, if you have a hi-fi lens cleaner that will work.
others will come

It doesn't seem likely that the drive got damaged by trying to play a file. If you're running Win 9x try going to DOS and run scanreg /restore. For ME or XP you might try a system restore. Also try uninstalling the software that came with the drive, uninstall the drive in Device Manager reboot and then reinstall both. Check for driver updates for the drive and video card.
