Hi all,
The computer that I have been trying to fix has had problems for a while. Everytime Windows 98 screen would appear, beginning the windows os starting, it would stall. After trying various things, I finally figured out that the problem was with the COM 2 port. So, I disabled the device in the system config (through control panel), and it has started up normally. This is all fine and all, except for the fact that the comp is not able to locate the modem, hence I am unable to connect to the net (no need in saying that i'm using a different computer right now). The thing is, if I enable the COM 2 port, it will still be screwed up. I need to know how to fix the COM 2 port driver, and also what I need to do to get my modem working. Thanks.

Sounds like you need to diable the COM port in the BIOS, which is seperate from the COM port on the modem. Though it sounds as the two are using the same IRQ/Port. Disable COM2 (Serial 2) in the BIOS, usually under "Integrated Peripherals" and then remove the COM ports from the device manager. Redetect them and then also redetect the modem. You will want to remove the modem from the Modem Control Panel and then redetect it. Hope this helps.
