printer has just decided to print [K or K] on some of my pages, particulary on first page, happens in publisher and when printing web pages.
I have un-installed & re-installed the printer, but no difference.

Is it happening no matter which program you are printing from? When I have had things like that in the past, it usually has been due to a problem with the program I am using to print, usually a word processor.
Good luck,

publisher & excel (I think word as well) but more occasionally now.
I have just printed a single page doc, and it threw out 5 pages of garbage, several attempts were the same. then it printed perfectly.

Have you checked all of you printe connections and settings. I would check in Device Manager to make sure the printer doesn't indicate a conflict over resources, I would also check printer Properties to see if there is anything that is set to print differently. Since you reinstalled the drivers, this seems unlikely, but if you didn't do a clean uninstall first it is possible that a mistake was carried over. I think that the printer sharing settings can cause this kind of problem and if you don't have to share, it may work to set it not too. You might also want to check settings in msconfig to make sure that no programs are running that would interfere with printing. I can tell you more about how to do that if you want.
On the other hand, maybe your printer is just being nasty.;)
Good luck,

printer settings ok. no conflicts.
it is very intermitent, so not easy to find. IE: print 5,6 - 10,12 pages ok then starts to foul up, maybe printing several pages of giberish. purge printing, print again and all is fine.

Hi Vic. A silly thought struck me on reading this thread. How many printer drivers are installed on your system? I had a similar problem that I eventually tracked down to a program I had installed that insisted on installing another printer that did not exist. Seems as if there was a driver conflict. Removing the extra printer solved the problem, and the new program still worked. Why the printer was installed I have no idea

there was m$ imagesetter & m$ colour printer ?? in addition to the 2 cannon printers currently in use.
there were previously hp and another canon also, which I deleted when I installed the last canon. I have now deleted the 2 m$. so will see how it goes.

printed a whole load of stuff off web last night. no probs.
tonight did 1 doc in publisher in landscape mode, it added some jibberish in portrait mode, tried it in word, did same thing, then it did some with just the 'K]'
changed leads, re-installed printer (all others deleted now)
test page prints perfect, most of the time, though occasionally produces a 'K]'

I have an ongoing printer problem that had me baffled for quite some time. I posted on here asking questions, never really got anywhere but until I had to reformat did I discover the problem. I even thought I was being hacked for a time.
Whenever I would open a Word doc or Word/Note Pad, if I let them sit minimized on the taskbar and do other tasks for awhile, when I would maximize it there would be the words "Get Presario State" written sometimes once, mostly twice but sometimes even more. Not exactly a subliminal message... I would have to delete the entries prior to printing the documents but sometimes some would still leak through undetecTED.
Care to guess what kind of printer I have? Yup, Compyuc.
Well after one reformat I left the printer drivers out because I seldom print anything since I do back-ups to CD-R now. Without the drivers and/or printer loaded there was never any problem in the Word documents. Then I had a need to print something so I reloaded the drivers. BANG! Problem returned.
Case closed though.
'K' for Cannon maybe?
Seems to me using another know good printer would answer a lot of questions.Do you have any brother, sisters or friends that can loan you one?I still have my old 24 pin printer that I use as a backup.

Hi nori.
I was thinking along those lines myself. I have another printer (canon) which has a known problem of printing gibberish if connected through a scanner. after takin scanner out of circiut it worked fine so I think I'll try that again & see how it goes.
