Hi; I've got two computers networked together and I would like to share the cable modem. I've configured both computers pretty much the same but still can't get one to hook up. The only difference that I can see is in the IP configuration window. In the scroll down window on the one that work's I have the NIC card. On the other I have NDIS 5.0 driver. I think that's the problem but don't know how to change it.Hope you can help. Thank's, Dave.

Probably this could help you, although I have DSL and not Cable. I have a 3 pc network at home; a laptop, a AMD and a 486 acting as a server conected to the DSL. I installed a Proxy server software called wingate in the 486 and wingate client software in the laptop and the AMD. It can work also as a firewall. You can get the trial version from their webpage (http://wingate.deerfield.com/).
If you dont want to pay for the software you can also get other proxy server software in the net, there are plenty of them; I would recommned you to use Wingate.
Good Luck!

You can do one of 2 things...
1. One NIC in each system, and buy a hardware router. Cable modem hooks to router, then you hook each PC to the router.
2. Two NICS in System 1, one NIC in system 2, and a software router. System 1 had the NIC from your cable company hooked to your cable modem, NIC 2 goes to the NIC in system 2 witha crossover cable, or to a hub if you are networking that way. Another good software router is here... http://www.sygate.com/free/sgsignup.php
You may want to call to check if this is allowed under you cable service aggreement. In the Buffalo area, this is not allowed-- they can terminate your service if the catch you. SO make sure if this is the case, to unhook all that if you have your cable company out for any type of service call-- even if it is for the TV end... here in Buffalo they are pretty anal about the thing, and they are trained to look for that stuff....
