View Full Version : Configering Drives
I have a P2/300, 256DRAM, 6.4mbx4800 HDD, 32xCDR and wish to add
a 30GBx7200 HDD and 48x12x48 CDRW.
What is the best way to configer master/slave and disk controller channel selection.
Hope someone can help.

Hi Fred.
I would suggest that the new HD be configured as slave to the other HD, and the CDRW made master on the other channel. Ideally, the new HD should be made the master (boot) drive as it has a lower access time. This would mean mirroring the existing drive to it while connected as slave, then reversing the master/slave configuration.
After changing the drives, fdisk and format the old one to remove the filesystem. If you have a copy of Ghost, then this is the way to go.

Hi David
Sorry I'm a bit slow in acknowledging your response. I've had some other suggestions to to make the CDRW slave to the CDR. Do you think that the fastest drive should be made master?

I am not sure about this, but I suspect that you may be overloading your system. I suspect that a PII/300 could only barely handle a CDRW and I suspect that it can't handle that much HD. I also would wonder if you have enough power in your power supply to handle it all.
Some of the experts here - is this a feasible combination???
