View Full Version : ps/2 mouse port not working

hi everyone , im changing from a serial mouse to a ps/2 mouse so i can use the serial port , but the ps/2 port isnt enabled ( not working ) or something , when i restart the cp with ps/2 mouse in i get a message saying "if you want to attatch mouse into a ps/2 port you must first turn the computer off" i do so and i get the same message. is this a hardware conflict or the ps/2 port not connected the mainboard properly (it looks like it is) thanx for help anyone can give

You're on the right track, check BIOS for an option to enable PS/2 mouse support. I think it's in the Intergrated Periferals section, but not positive, and it also depends on the BIOS in your machine.
NOTE: Make sure you DO NOT plug in or unplug the PS/2 mouse while the computer is turned on, it WILL fry the PS/2 port. Turn the computer completely off or unplug it. With an ATX board, check for a main power switch on back of the case, if it does not have one, unplug it. Even when the machine is powered down, the ATX board will still have power running to certain buses...
