I have a HP-511W

It is a 1.2 ghz celeron/128mb ram (soon to upgrade to 133)/40 gig/ and one of 'em 11 mb integrated video card...

i want to upgrade to a 32 mb pci card..... probably a tnt2 or a geforce or maybe a nvidia dunno yet..... but it has to be a pci.

2 questions.... first of all i need "detailed" instructions so i dont screw up my "dads" computer.

1. how do i allocate more memory to the onboard video. right now it says 4 mb but as soon as i upgrade ram i want it to be the full 11..

2. how to i disable the onboard video to install a pci card?

i need really good instructions or else i'll be buying a new pc for my dad hehehe....

thank you

jjoel

go here and call for support or go to a HP dealer and ask them. you should go to the dealer cause HP support may want to charge you to talk.
http://www.hp.com/

because its a hp you may not be able to do everything you want.

Hi jjoel-
I'm not sure I fully understand. You can generally allocate more momory to your onboard card through your Bios. But why do you want to do that if you will be disabling the onboard card to add a new video card?
And, you are adding how much Ram? (And a new hard drive too??)

This page explains how to install a new video card under the heading 'Installing Add-In Cards', and also how to disassemble and reassemble the computer:

JJoel:

Not an expert, but I am a subscriber to the HP forum. Video card problems posted there are seldon resolved. I recommend you don't try to upgrade the onboard video, else you end up with an NVIDIA GE Force 2 in your closet too.:(
