the new system I built is...

asus p3 mobo
intel 600mz cpu
pc10064mb sdram
atx300w power
ati rage2
usr 56k
CLabs 64 awe

software...

win98se
word2k
adode photoshop
lexmark z32
scanner???

additional...

lexmark z32 printer
scanner...can't remember

installation of software was good, no problems. System working good with everything hooked up and running

problem...

from a hard/cold boot, everything loads and works good

from a warm boot, be it reset button/ctrl-alt-del/or windows restart, the boot process hangs right after the cdrom is detected on the start up screen. Happens every time. I've swapped out the cdrom and power supply a couple of times but no change. I booted with the system disk and it works fine. Warm boot from dos and it hangs in the same place as before. I've changed the power settings in the cmos with no affect. I've reinstalled all the software with no affect. I've done warm boot with minimal hardware to no affect. I've had the cdrom as master and slave with no affect. No matter what I do I can't get the system to warm boot. I've talked to other techs and gotten theories from bad bios, bad cmos, bad power (under voltage), bad mbr, bad mobo. If the mobo was bad why would I be able to hard boot?

After 3 days of trying to get the system to warm boot I gave up. Anybody have any ideas that I've missed?

thanx

If you can get into safe mode , F8 on bootup , try this .

Automatic Skip Driver (ASD) identifies failures that have
caused Windows 98 to stop responding on previous startups
and marks them so they are bypassed on subsequent startups.

Click Start, pointing to Programs, pointing to Accessories,
pointing to System Tools, and then clicking System Information.
In System Information, click Tools, and then click Automatic Skip
Driver Agent.
All devices or operations that have failed to start are listed
by ASD. You can use ASD to enable any device previously disabled
by ASD, and Windows 98 will attempt to use the device on the next
startup attempt. If it fails, your computer will stop responding.
When you restart your computer again, ASD will prevent the operation
from running allowing you to start your computer. Click Details to
identify the failing device and display a suggested course of action.
