Hi,
I just recently bought a brand new Prostar 5694 Laptop. I had to send the first one that I got back because of hard drive errors that I was getting in the event viewer (Win2kPro) and I'm now on my second one. This one is not giving me any errors but I am getting intermitant problems with my video card (it appears). After running for a while the screen becomes unreadable. It seems like the screen has black horizontal lines through it. They are not perfect lines but that is the best way that I can describe the problem. I was able to take a screen shot of the problem. I could email it to anyone if they like but I can't do it now since I'm at work. The video card that I'm using is a Raydeon ATI mobility 7500. I should point out that the most recent time that this problem happened it was when the computer came out of standby mode. Any tips would be apprecicated

Thanks,

Does the problem persist or fade after the laptop is fully off of standby? If it is a new system and a persistent problem, I would urge contacting the maker or the people who sold it to you and see what they say before messing with it. Given that, have you checked your settings in Device Manager for the video?

Sorry about the late reply. Yes the problem does persist after running for a while so I have to reboot and then it works fine. Also what video settings should I check in the event viewer? Thanks,

I am not sure what the Event Viewer is, I use Win2kPro at work, but I am limited in how much I can tinker because of the network. What I am suggesting is to check in Device Manager to see what it says about properties for the video. To get there, go to My Computer, right click and select Properties. You should have a tab for Device Manager listing all devices. Select your video and check properties to see if there are any obvious problems. Do the same thing with anything about the screen that appears or anything that has a yellow exclamation mark next to it. You can also right click on the Desktop to get a drop down menu, click on Properties and go to the Settings tab. Check your settings for the screen there. You may want to try a lower resolution and/or color depth. For instance, if you have it set for 32bit color, you could try 24bit and see if that helps. You could reduce resolution from current setting to something like 800x600 to see if that helps.

If none of this helps, post back here for more help, you'll probably get someone to respond who knows more about it than I do.

Good luck,
