Hi folks,

Sometimes when my newly built Athlon (the one in the recent thread about the problems with the Plextor CD-RW) boots up, it appears to be in sleep or suspend mode - i.e. the fans etc. come on, but the monitor stays in its power-saving setting, and I have to press the power button for more than 4 seconds to get it to power down. I don't think it's getting as far as the POST, either, because it doesn't beep. I thought this might be a power management problem (because we had similar problems with a different computer) so I disabled power management in the BIOS, but that hasn't made any difference.

It's an Athlon 1.2GHz; the motherboard's an Asus A7M266 and the case is an Enlight with 300 W power supply.

Any ideas?

The first thing I would look at is the Hardware monitoring.
Look at the CPU temp.

Also check to see if it is set to failsafe mode

Aside from possibly overheating (or thinking its overheating)and shutting itself down.
I have no idea what could be causing this.

also in display properties- "Screen Saver" TAB, make them say always on and 'never', also in the "Advanced" TAB- "When I press the power button on my computer"- set to "Shut down".

only other thing I can think of may be a messed up screen saver (corrupt).
