Howdy Nino,
How are you uninstalling the previous driver? I would go into Device Manager, select anything to do with the scanner and click on Remove. I would then reboot and try the downloaded drivers when Windows detects new hardware. If it doesn't automatically detect it, I would check in Device Manager again and if nothing had changed I would try to run the driver programs that had been downloaded. If all else fails, I would contact Plustek.
Good luck,
Budfred
:) Thanks, the driver (s)are ok,
I had to disable the parallelport EPP on the BIOS,
than OK.
Ciao:)

My Daughter has a similar problem useing Windows XP with a Visioneer Scanner. After installation by the book and CD, an error message appears, eg. There is a problem with the BIOS. Any suggestions Guys:(

Stefanus,
Please say more about what the error message is. My first impulse would be to Remove the scanner and let XP do an autodetect, then see if it worked better. Also, I would want to see if this is a driver that has been updated for XP.

Budfred, Thanx. I am dropping by my Daughters house later and will give you the exact wording of the error message. Incidently the scanner set up procedure is with scanner disconected and after set up connect via a USB, Have tried both USB ports and no joy. I think I will open a new thread on this one, will keep you informed

I would probably try a reinstall with the scanner plugged in to see if that made a difference.

Budfred.
Tried that nothing, I phoned PC World and spoke to one of their fundis, he did not have a clue. I went intoDevice Mngr and checked the BIOS it showed that the USB port was disabled, where do I go from there? The PC is an E-Machine model No 330 with two USB ports, the printer works in one only, the rear one but not in the front one,
and the scanner will not work in either
Couple things:
1) Some times the front USB are'nt connectet directly to the MB, two cables cross the tower-out to the back than plugged in tu the USB port, you might have 2 more added by a adapter (2+2=4), open the case verify; of corse on the Bios you afte able Usb.
2) For parralel port(s) (exsample) if you had 2, you shoul use LP1 printer port four THE SCANNER, then LP3 for the printer cose you able to confi. it. What I"m sayng after making sure that the USB are active (bios + windows System....) TRY to instal the SCANNER first. (allwaise remove complete software / reinstall.
ciao:rolleyes:

I am guessing that you meant to say you called Plustek, is that true??
Did you go into Setup and try to enable the USB port? To do that you look for the way to enter Setup on your computers boot screens and look for settings that relate to the USB port. Make sure they are set to Auto if possible or specifically enable them if that is all the option you have. Save and Exit, then when the computer is done rebooting, try your ports again.
Oh, and as Nino said, make sure you front USB port is actually hooked up.
Good luck,
Budfred

Some scanners appear to be unusable with XP - got one like that here (just moving it to a non XP machine) I upgraded to XP a couple of months back, plugged in the USB scanner (Scanmagic 600CU) and XP informed me that it wouldn't work. The manufacturers don't supply any drivers for XP either.
